  1. Hi there Nici,

Jade F here from the Summer Learning Journey. Well done on completing another blog post.

With your first activity, I really liked that you chose a Cathedral from here in NZ. I'm quite curious to know, when was the Christchurch Cathedral built and how long did it take to build? Why don't you research it and let me know what you find in a comment! :)

In your second activity, good effort on writing a response on whether you think it was fair for women in Saudi Arabia weren't allowed to vote until 2015. Could you tell me more about why you felt the way you did? What are the reasons why you think it's not fair?

In your bonus activity, you mention that you liked the poem Flanders Field, what were some parts of the poem that you liked? Why did you feel the way you felt from reading the poem?

Keep up the good effort Nici, hope to hear from you soon!

    Cheers,
    Jade F :)

  2. Hey Nici,

This is Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey team. I will also be reading your blog posts along with Jade F, Hazel, Rachel, and many other bloggers. I look forward to reading more of your blogs.

It's very sad to see the beautiful cathedral destroyed and broken down due to the earthquake. It took 40 years to build that Cathedral, how many years do you think it will take for the builders to re construct the cathedral? I think it will take at least 10 years to do so! Perhaps you could add in some more information about the Cathedral!

It was very common belief that women were inferior to men and because of this, men were only allowed to make important decisions such as voting and making laws. Women had to do housework and take a good care of her children. All the important jobs were given to men and there were less opportunities for women to have power and control. Nowadays women and men have equal rights to most of everything in our society. We are lucky to live in New Zealand because we are all treated fairly and equally - gender and ethnicity do not matter!

I agree with you that a lot of young soldiers lost their lives in the war field to defend our country and other countries around the world. We must never forget about this historical event and remember those who lost their lives.

I enjoyed reading your post and I look forward to reading more and commenting on them!

    All the best,
    Jade C.

  3. Kia Ora Nici,

My name is Georgia and I am the cluster manager for the Kaikohekohe (Northland) cluster. For the next few days, I'll be commenting on students blogs from Uru Manuka and I am very excited to see the work you all have been doing this summer.

Great work on your first activity. You found some good pictures to show the Cathedral before and after the earthquake. It's so sad to see how much damage it suffered. Have you ever visited the Christchurch Cathedral, either before or after the earthquakes?

I agree with your response to the second activity. What are some of the reasons that you think it is unfair that women don't have the right to vote?

You're right about the 'In Flanders Field' poem, it is very sad to read. It's important that we remember everyone that fought and died for our country, as sad as it is.

Great work on this post, Nici. I look forward to reading more.
