Summer Learning Journey Week 4 Day 4

Ki Ora Everyone for the next few weeks I will be posting blog posts continuously for something that is called the Summer Learning Journey. Today I am doing Week 4 Day 4. I will always put the links under this blurb so that you can go to the sites I had.
Links: Coco ChanelTwenty Seven NamesFatu Feu’usiapongatumasihiapotapakapa, here,BanksyHere.

Activity 1.Fashion forward
Coco Chanel was a French fashion designer from the early 1900s. She was very influential because she designed clothes for women that were beautiful, but also comfortable and practical. Before Coco came along, European women wore corsets that pulled in their waists and dresses that had lots of lace. Coco Chanel introduced a completely new style, influenced by men’s fashion - trousers (pants), monochrome (black and white) fabric, and looser tops. Twenty Seven Names is a contemporary (current) New Zealand fashion label that is also influential. The founders of the company are two friends, Rachel Easting and Anjali Burnett. Rachel and Anjali met when they were at primary school. When they left school, Anjali studied fashion design and Rachel studied art before they set up their own business designing and making clothing. Where possible they employ young women and they keep as much of their production (making) in New Zealand as possible.
I think it is a good name for them because they give 27 choices for you to choose from.

Activity 2.Try Your Own Tapa
Fatu Feu’u is a Samoan artist who lives in Aotearoa/New Zealand. He is mostly known for being a painter but he also creates sculptures, pottery, prints, and glassworks.
As an artist, Fatu Feu’u is primarily influenced by tapa cloth (siapo) patterns from Samoa, as well as tatau (tattoo), weaving, carving, and mask designs.
Many Pacific Islands have their own versions of tapa cloth. In Tonga it is called the ngatu, in Fiji - the masi, in Niue - the hiapo, in the Cook Islands - the tapa, and in Hawaii - the kapa. You can learn more about tapa cloth here.

Bouns Activity. Top Secret Street Art
“Banksy” is an influential artist from England. He is very private and secretive. In fact, almost no one knows who he really is - he always creates his art in secret! Banksy often uses stencils to create his street art.Street art, or graffiti art, is all around us. Sometimes the art tells a story, sometimes it makes a building look more interesting, and sometimes it makes us think hard about something. In 2011, the city of Christchurch experienced a huge earthquake. A lot of the central city buildings fell down. It takes a long time to rebuild a city, and there are areas of Christchurch where buildings are still damaged and/or need to be rebuilt. Street artists in Christchurch have seen this as a chance to create artwork that helps to make the city beautiful again. You can see lots of amazing street art in Christchurch at the moment! Here is a site that shows you where to find it.

Activity 1.Medical Mavericks
Over the years, many important discoveries have been made by clever people looking to help others. Two of these are women - Florence Nightingale and Marie Curie whose work has been widely recognized and appreciated. Both women lived extraordinary lives.
Florence Nightingale was born in 1820 in England. When she grew up, she trained to be a nurse and, as an adult, was sent to Turkey during the Crimean War to look after wounded soldiers. When she arrived, the hospitals were very dirty so she spent money to clean them up and to provide the soldiers with quality care. She saved many lives. Marie Curie was born in Poland in 1867. Eventually, she moved to France to go to university. While there, she learned a lot about physics, chemistry, and maths. She spent her career conducting experiments that led to the discovery of chemical elements. She was also the first person to use an x-ray machine to look at the human body. She earned two Nobel Prizes for her work. Nobel Prizes are given out every year to people who have done something extraordinary in six specific fields of study - Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, Peace, and Economics.
His name: Robert G. Edwards Won: The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2010
Born:
27 September 1925
Where He Was Born:
Batley, United Kingdom
Died:
10 April 2013
Where He Died:
Cambridge, United Kingdom
He was the only person who received the prize. He studied at the
University of Cambridge, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
Activity 2.iMoko
Dr. Lance O’Sullivan is a Māori doctor who lives in Kaitaia, Northland. He has committed his life to improve the health and well-being of both his patients and people in the local community. In 2014 he was named New Zealander of the Year.Together, Lance and his wife, Tracy, have started some very cool projects in New Zealand including affordable clinics, the Kāinga Ora (healthy homes) initiative, and the MOKO Foundation. The MOKO Foundation provides healthcare for students in school-based clinics. He has also started iMOKO, a digital initiative (program) whereby people living in communities without doctors, can take photos of health issues and send them to doctors in Kaitaia. The doctors look at the photos, provide advice and can send a script to the local pharmacy so that the patient can get medicine. This program is improving the health and well-being of people living in rural Northland.

1. We run around outside.
2. We play sports.
3. We eat healthily.
4. We get plenty of sleep.
5. We go for walks.

Bouns Activity.Putting Our Heads Together
Health is a complex and complicated topic. Most people believe that there are many dimensions (areas) of health - physical health, social health, mental health, emotional health, etc. Mental health is an area that is not often discussed. It is basically the way we think and feels about ourselves and the world around us. Sometimes our mental health can be affected by things that have happened in our lives, or by changes in our brains that we cannot control. Here in New Zealand, people like Mike King and John Kirwan have made the choice to speak publicly about the mental health challenges that they face. Overseas, people like The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have joined the discussion about mental health and, like John and Mike, started a foundation to support people struggling with mental health challenges. John Kirwan started the John Kirwan Foundation in 2018. Mike King founded The Key to Life Foundation, the I Am Hope and the Gumboot Friday campaigns while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge started the Heads Together foundation in 2017. In each case, these foundations serve an important role in the community.

My Poster

I put the title it red writing and bigger than the rest of it because it catches people's eyes.
Then I have the people that made I am hope right underneath it because it makes more sense to have the writing under neither the title.

I have a little bit of what they do and why they were made. When they first got made it was for helping kids that had a rough life and thats what they still do to this day.

Activity 1. Guiding PrinciplesHōne Heke was a rangatira (chief) of Ngapuhi iwi in Northland. He was a strong and fearless warrior, and also an intelligent leader who fought for Māori rights during the British colonization of Aotearoa, New Zealand. He was baptized as a Christian in 1835 and had much respect for the missionaries that came to New Zealand. Hōne Heke supported Te Tiriti o Waitangi - the Treaty of Waitangi - and was the first rangatira to sign it in 1840. However, he soon realized that under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori rangatira was losing their authority (power). In protest, he cut down the flagpole that flew the British flag at Kororareka (Russell) four times. He must have been very frustrated and angry. Sometimes when we feel strongly (frustrated, angry, happy, excited, in awe…) we find it hard to put our feelings into words. Many cultures have sayings, proverbs or metaphors that can help people to explain their feelings or describe specific things. In Te Reo Māori, some people may use a whakataukī.

Activity 2.Celebrating Diversity
There are between 370 and 500 million Indigenous Peoples currently living in 90 countries around the world. Together, they represent over 5000 different cultures and speak 4000 different languages. That is pretty amazing ‘eh?! I wish that I could speak 4000 languages! Indigenous People is the term used to describe the people who were the first inhabitants of a land. In Aotearoa, Māori is Indigenous. Indigenous people have rich and vibrant cultures that make the world such a fascinating, varied and enriching place to live.

I chose Australian aboriginal people & Maya People
Facts about Australian aboriginal people
1. Aboriginal Australians are related to groups indigenous to Australia
2.here are 250 distinct language groups spread throughout Australia.
Facts about Maya People
1, more than 600 of their people now live in America.
2. they speak more than 30 Mayan languages.

Bouns Activity.Wise Words
Sir Āpirana Ngata and Dame Whina Cooper were both influential leaders who fought for Māori rights. Āpirana Ngata was a lawyer and politician. He worked hard to give rights to Māori landowners, and he also spent a lot of his career encouraging Māori to preserve the culture - haka, poi, whakairo (carving), waiata (song), sport and the construction of more marae around Aotearoa, New Zealand. Whina Cooper was the first president of the Māori Women’s Welfare League, which worked on improving health, education, housing, and welfare for Māori women in New Zealand in the 1950s. She led the Māori land hikoi (march) from Northland to Wellington to protest against the loss of Māori land. She was nearly 80 years old at the time. Both of these individuals are examples of wise, inspiring leaders and role models.
My role model is my mum.
Because she is always doing her best to make us kids have the best we can.
One day she told me if you keep acting like your acting you won't make it through life and that's when I learned that I need to change the way i'm acting so thats what I did

Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Day 4

Ki Ora Everyone for the next few weeks I will be posting blog posts continuously for something that is called the Summer Learning Journey. Today I am doing Week 1 Day 4. I will always put the links under this blurb so that you can go to the sites I had.

Activity 1. Making a Racket
Billie Jean King, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams are three exceptional, female tennis players. They are not only outstanding athletes and some of the best tennis players in the world, but they have fought for women to be recognized as equals to men in the game of tennis. Billie Jean King famously beat a male tennis player, Bobby Riggs, in 1973, to prove to the public that women could compete at any level in tennis. Billie Jean King was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was recently awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year - Lifetime Achievement Award.
Know now
  1. Serena and Venus were some of the top Tennis players of women
  2. Both the girls have kids
  3. When they both had their kids neither of them thought they were ready to go back to work after four weeks so they had a few more weeks off and then went back to work
Would like to know
1. How old were they when they started playing tennis

Activity 2.What’s in a Name?

Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest boxers of all time. He started boxing when he was 12 years old and went on to become the World Heavyweight Champion numerous times in the 1960s and 1970s. Muhammad Ali was an African American man born with the name Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. When he was a young man, however, he became a Muslim and converted to Islam. When he converted, he changed his name to Muhammad Ali. During his life, Ali gave a lot of time and money to various charities. He also helped to feed more than 22 million people across the world who didn’t have enough food. Despite all of his charitable work, Muhammad Ali is still best known for his aggressive boxing style, his confident personality, and his inspirational quotesChanging your name is a big deal! If you were to change your name, what would you change it to?
If I were able to change my name I would change it to Erika because my mum wanted to name me Erika but it didn't go with my middle and last name.

Bouns Activity. Worth her Weight in Gold
Dame Valerie Adams (half-sister of basketballer, Steven Adams) is a shot put champion from New Zealand (NZ). She has won the World Championships four times as well as both gold and silver medals at the Olympics. Here, in New Zealand, she has won the Halberg Award for New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year seven consecutive times (2006-2012)! She is a bit of a legend both in NZ and in her homeland of Tonga.Valerie Adams is a proud Tongan New Zealander. You can see her wearing a ta’ovala in the photo. There are many Tongans living in New Zealand - you may be one of them! The Kingdom of Tonga is a group of 169 islands in the Pacific Ocean. It is located between Fiji, Samoa, and Niue. Here are some travel tips about Tonga.

Image result for oil rig

Aim: To look at how fossil fuels are contributing to climate change and how we can prevent this.

Definition of Fossil Fuels:
a natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms.

Questions I Have To Answer

What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?
Answer:Climate Change and us having no world left

How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
  1. Floods
  2.  Storms
  3. Higher Sea Levels
  4.  Air Pollution

What is needed to change history?
The Answer Is To Stop Polluting the air and water with stuff that can pollute our world

Is climate change a man made disaster?
Yes Climate Change is a man made disaster. Because we are making it happen.

Dramatic action must be made in the next _10_ years to change it?

Why is our climate changing?
Because of us Polluting the air and the sea

What is causing the warming trend of the climate?
Us Making Things that use power

What is the main problem?
The World Heating Up Each Year

What are examples of these?
1.Pulltion
2.Heat Waves
3. Flooding
4. Hurricanes
5. Tornados
6. Sea Levels rising

Burning fossil fuels releases what gas?
carbon dioxide

How much hotter now is our world?
1 degrees Celsius

What do we call this global warming?
Climate Change

How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats?
It Is Overheating So The Creatures Are Dying

What percentage of species are near extinction?
8%

How could this affect the world ecosystems?
Overview. Climate is an important environmental influence on ecosystems.
Changing climate affects ecosystems in a variety of ways.
For instance, warming may force species to migrate to higher latitudes
or higher elevations where temperatures are more conducive to their survival

What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?
Last year was so hot that global land- and ocean-surface temperatures were 1.42 degrees
Fahrenheit (0.79 degrees Celsius) above the 20th-century average, NOAA reported. Since 1880,
when record-keeping began,
only three years — 2016 (the highest, in part because of El Niño), 2015 and 2017 — were hotter

How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
1. The Water Levels Rising
2.  More Storms
3. Heaver Rain Falling

What is another effect of climate change?
global climate change is now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer,
more intense heat waves.

What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?
Hotter weather is also melting ice on land, increasing the volume of water in the ocean.
Scientists are now paying particularly close attention to warming inAntarctica, home to 90 percent of our
planet's ice. If it were all to melt, it would raise sea levels by 190 feet.

How does this affect people?
Our changing climate will affect our economy, environment and way of life.
This page has the climate changes we can expect in New Zealand and the likely impacts.
It links to information that local government can use to prepare for climate change and actions you can take.

What other things affect oceans change?
  • A Warmer Ocean.
  • Melting of the Poles.
  • Rising Sea Levels.
  • Changes to the Ocean's Major Current Systems.
  • Ocean Acidification.

What does too much heat do to the coral?
Rising Ocean Temperatures Can Kill Corals. Humans are pumping more and
more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. That's trapping excess heat and causing the
surface of the planet to warm. However, surface warming accounts for only about 7 percent
of the excess heat our planet is taking on

Why did some industries not want to stop burning fossil fuels?
Rising Ocean Temperatures Can Kill Corals. Humans are pumping more and more
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. That's trapping excess heat and causing the surface
of the planet to warm. However, surface warming accounts for only about 7 percent of the excess heat our
planet is taking on

Scientific Terms for Students
  • coal: a dark-brown to black solid substance formed naturally from the compaction and hardening of fossilized plants and used as a fuel primarily for electricity generation
  • natural gas: a mixture of hydrocarbon gases that occurs naturally beneath the earth’s surface and is used as a fuel primarily for cooking and heating homes
  • renewable resource: a resource that is never used up (e.g., solar energy)
  • non-renewable resource: a resource that is not replaceable after its use (e.g., coal, gas)

Examples of Fossil Fuels:
  1.   Gas
  2.   Oil
  3. Coal

My Cookie Work
My Cookie Had Lost Of Chocolate Chips It Looked A Little Bit Like this
Then We Had To Choose A Setting And I Choose The Sea
Like This
We Then had answer some questions here are the questions i had and my answers
1. What type of ecosystem is it?
Answer: It Is We Because It Is Under Water
2. What Plants and animals live there?
Answers:
1. Fish
2. Seals
3.Turtles
_______
3. How Do Humans Use This Space
Answer: To Swim
Then We Picked Out all the chocolate chips and my cookie broke and looked like this
And Then We Had To Draw The Ecosystem How It Would Be If All The Animals Died So I Think It Would Look Like This
And then i had to answer another three questions Here They Are With My Answers
1.How Has The Ecosystem Changed?
Answer: All The animals died

2. What Lives There Now?
Answer: Nothing Because All The Animals Died
3. What are some ways we can avoid situations like this in the future?
Answer: Not Using As Much Rubbish And Plastic

Conclusion: What I Learnt From This Lesson Is That Climate Change Will Happen Soon If We Keep Up what we are doing and it is dangerous because we might not have a planet to live on if we keep it up. so

SAVE THE PLANET STOP USING PLASTIC🙋
