STEAM

Hey everyone welcome back today in STEAM we are working together to fix a issue that we may have in 2050. Our issue is climate change.  and our way we are going to change it is that we will be making a shirt with heating and cooling pads in it so that we can cool down and so that we could heat our selfs up or cool our selfs down no matter the weather. Our inquiry question is How can we help heating and cooling without using heaps of energy. So we decided to make the shirt with it.

Thank you for veiwing my blog. when i get a photo of our plan i will post it so you can see how we are going.

Hurumanu 1 do now week 8

Hey everyone welcome back today we had another do now, our topic today was should Matariki Be a pubic holiday. Sorry for a small introduction, I hope you enjoy my paragraph, Have a wonderful day good-bye

When you think about Matariki you would think we could get a public holiday for that well sadly that's not true right now.  A few reasons why I think we should get a holiday for this is because it is the Maori New Year and it should be celebrated. An example for this would be that we celebrate queens birthday and its not always her birthday and we celebrate our new year but we don't celebrate Matariki. Therefore this is why I think we should have a Public Holiday for Matariki.

Debating

Hey everyone welcome back today in hurumanu 1 we are learning about debating, we are learning about debating because for hurumanu 2 we have a hurumanu election which is where there are multiple groups and we all have to basically debate in front of people to get votes.  I Hope you have a wonderful day Good-Bye.

Debating- Debating is a structured argument where there are two sides and then they both have a different argument.

Pro vs Con- It is good vs bad basically and the good side gets to state their side of the argument

Proposition- It is the first people that gets to speak so they get to state what their point of the argument is first

Opposition- The opposition is the second group of people that get to state their side of the argument

Order of debate- it is the whole argument restated  and then the argument is finished and one side is chosen of who the other people think are the better argument

Hurumanu 1 do now week 8

Hey everyone welcome back today we had another do now. I hope you have a good day. please enjoy my paragraph that you for reading, good-bye

When you think about subjects what is the first one to come to mind, for some people it's English it may be different for others. A reason for this would be that when you first come to a high school you will probably be getting taught a few classes but one of the main ones you would be getting taught is english. For example what language do you speak well it's probably English, another example is that you would need to know how to write a full story or a CV for when your older, and wanting to get a job and a story for if you become a book writer. Therefore that is why English is the most important subject to learn in school.

Collaborative essay

Hey everyone welcome back today in Hurumanu 1 are making a collaborative essay. Our topic  was that the board of trusteeze should pay for the school uniforms. Have a wonderful day, Good-Bye

When you first think about uniforms you would think they are very expensive. Well you're right this is why they should be free or the Board of trustees should pay for it.  A few parts on why they should be free are because not everyone can afford the uniform because they have to buy food and get all the stuff they need to survive for example clothes and shoes etc.

Around twenty percent of schools around Aotearoa New Zealand have to wear mufti because of parents struggling with juggling bills, medical costs and also having to buy school uniforms. If not enough parents buy the uniforms then they have to go into a non uniform school. If a school doesn’t have uniforms they would be distracted and not focused because they would be too busy focusing on if their outfit looks good.

Why should school uniforms be free? I think that school uniforms should be free because there are people out there who are living on the streets struggling to keep their kids in school. By making the uniform free that makes parents stress less about uniforms and they have the chance to spend that money on stationery. Also by making uniform free that makes it less of a struggle when going on school trips when in mufti your teacher could easily lose you. But when having uniform it would be much easier to find you and track you down to bring you back to the group.

Why are school’s making uniforms so expensive? The reason why they make uniforms so expensive is to fund the school and keep it up and running. Parents struggle to keep up with the uniform prices but the school struggles to keep the school running. In my opinion they should make uniforms cheaper so their parents have the spare money to buy books and other school stuff required because students tend to not have this simple stuff which can get them into trouble sometimes. One in five children struggle to buy uniforms. Lone parents tend to have 1 or more children which can cause depression. Therefore I believe they should make school uniforms cheaper.

Liquid, Solid Gas

Hey everyone welcome back today in hurumanu 4 we were learning about liquids, solids, and gases. Then we had to make a poster about it, Here is my work Have a wonderful day, Good-bye

Chromatography

Hey everyone welcome back today in Science we were learning about Chromatography. I hope you enjoy my blog have a wonderful day Good-Bye

What is Chromatography?
It is the process of separating a mixture based on the pigments

What are pigments?
They are a substance that gives colour to things. They are used to give colour to all sorts of things like felts, paints, plastic, food ect. In other words they are particle

Experiment

Our aim of the experiment is to separate the different pigments from ink using chromatography

Hypothesis:
I think that they will separate and it will change colours

Method:

1. Draw a line across the filter paper in pencil, 5cm from the bottom

2. Draw a coloured dot in the center of the line.

3. Measure out 10mL of water and place in the test tube

4. place the filter paper in the test tube and fold over the side
MAKE SURE THE PENCIL LINE/DOT IS NOT IN THE WATER

5. wait 5 minutes and observe the results.

Equipment:

Felt tip pen, filter paper strips, test tube, measuring cylinder, pencil,

Observed and discussion

When we did the experiment the colour moved up and it looked very cool i couldnt get a photo of it sorry

Do Now week 6 Day 2

Hey everyone welcome back today we are doing another do now. Have a wonderful day good-bye

(Our topic idea was anyone who lives In Aotearoa New Zealand should be aloud to vote in the federal election)

When you think about voting some people would think anyone can vote but that's not true. A reason why this statment is not true is because people that are younger have no clue what they are doing and they would be silly and just choose a random box for a person. For example say a 5 year old was voting they would just scribble over the paper because they have no clue on what they are doing. Another example is most people aren't mature enough to vote until they are aged 18 or even 16 so anyone that was voting at a younger age than 16-18 would be silly and just tick a random box for a person. There for that is why anyone over the ages of 16-18 should be aloud to vote in New Zealand not just anyone, and also why I disagree with this statement.

Mother Teresa

Hey everyone welcome back for the past week in Hurumanu 1 we were learning about mother teresa. I hope you enjoy my post have a good day Good-Bye

Week 6 do now

Hey everyone welcome back today, our do now was about our names. So I hope you enjoy my paragraph, Have a wonderful day. Good-Bye

when you meet a new person whats the first thing you ask them? well its their name.  A reason for this would be so that you know them and so that you know who they are. For example when someone is saying a speech or tell you about them self's the first thing they say is like "Hi My name is (Their Name) so you know who is talking to you. Another example is saying your name to someone lets them know who you are and what your like because as you may of heard before you name is one of the reasons why you are who you are.  There for this is why your name is the most important part about you.

Hurumanu 1

Hey everyone welcome back for the past few weeks we were writing a essay about a famous well known new Zealander and then we had to say why their influential to us. Here is my essay have a wonderful day Good-Bye

Sir Edmund Hillary, who is he? What did he do? Well Here's

about his life. In his childhood he was always a really shy person

and was a very awkward person. He was born on the 20th of July 1919

when he started going to school his primary school was Taukau Primary School.

Then when he got into high school when he was sixteen he started to do boxing lessons.

In time of career, he climbed the summit of Mount Everest. He did charity work,

and he was the very first person to climb Mount Everest ever. He decided to climb

the mountain to show people that hes not they shy person that he used to be when

he was a kid and to show people that he was prepared to do something that no one

was prepared to do. He did charity work to fund raise for a company called Himalayan

Trust which is a company that he led until he passed away in 2008.

He won three awards they all were in different years and these are the awards.

The very first one that he won was in 1954 and that award was called the Hubbard Medal,

which was for distinction in exploration, discovery and research. The next award he won was

in 1958 and this award was called Patrons Gold Medal, which was for geographical society,

and finally his last award that he won was called Padma Vibhushan and he got this for some

of the main reasons as the other two awards that he got he got this award in 2008.

He became influential to me because we both got bullied when we were younger

and he shows me no matter how badly you get bullied you can always build yourself

back up and do something bigger and better. Therefore that is what makes Sir

Edmund Hillary the most well known person in the whole of New Zealand, I also told you about

his life story.

Hurumanu 1 Week 5 do now

Hey everyone welcome back today in Hurumanu one our do now topic was The Principal is the most important person in a school thank you for reading my paragraph and viewing my blog have a wonderful day. Good-Bye

When you think about a school the first question that comes to mind would be "Who is the Principal?". Some reasons for this would be the prinicipal runs the school they make sure everythings going right and that people aren't misbehaving. For example when a student is misbehaving and don't stop when they are asked to they could get sent to the principals office and have to talk to the principal.Another example of why they are the most important person in the school is because they get to decided who gets hired and who does what. There for that is why I Believe that the principal is the most important person in the school.

Shark infested custard

Hey everyone welcome back today in health we played a game called shark infested custard. The Interpersonal skill I used today was negotiate I used Negotiate by talking with my team to get the right plan. It kind of helped us because we kept with our plan no matter how many times we fell. Today I worked with, Hayley, Ashton, Nevaeh, Zac Issac and Jesse. If we were to do it again we would talk to each other more so that we actually got further, I was working at level 3 because we cheered each on so that we didn't give up. the warm fuzzie I used was come on we've got this. Thank you for viewing my blog  Have a wonderful day Good-Bye

Science- Concentration and Dilution

Hey everyone welcome back today in science we are learning about Concentration and dilution, we will be learning about some of the key words then we will be doing a experiment. I hope you enjoy My Blog have a wonderful day Good-Bye

Definition:
Concentration means how much solute has been dissolved in the solvent in other words  how much solute there is in the solution.  We can measure this in two ways which is how dilute something is(How weak it it) or How concentrated
it is (how Strong it is)

Aim: carry out a serial dilution with potassium permanganate

Experiment:

In today's Experiment we are be diluting things (Making it weaker) so that it has less concentration. Our experiment is called a serial dilution

What we used:

six test tubes
Measuring cylinder
tweezers
Potassium Permanganate Crystal
Plastic transfer pipette
Test tube rack

Hypothesis:

I think it will become a very light shade of purple because when it starts it starts out purple so it may just become a lighter shade of purple

Method:
1. place the six test tubes in a test tube rack.

2. Fill 1 with 10mls of water full remaining with 5mls of water

3.using your tweezers, add a single crystal of potassium permangate to test tube 1

4. gently shake the test tube until the crystal has dissolved

5. using the transfer pipette carefully remove exactly 5ml from test tube 1 and pour it into test tube 2

6. Rinse the transfer pipette thoroughly to ensure that so purple solution remains

7. gently shake test tube 2 and repeat the transfer process, transferring exactly 5ml of solution from test tube 2 to test tube 3

8. Rinse the pipette and repeat the transfer process for test tube 4,5, and 6

Observation and discussion:

Once we did it it started off at a dark purple and at the end it became clear again. Test tube one was the most concentrated because it had more particals and number 6 test tube was more clear because it had less particals so it was more dilute.

here are photos of it

Science- Filtration

Hey everyone welcome back today in science we are learning about filtering, we will be learning about some of the key words then we will be doing a experiment. I hope you enjoy My Blog have a wonderful day Good-Bye

Key words:
Filtering- Separating things based on their size. It only works if we have different sized particles. in other words only insoluble particles can be used while filtering.

Experiment:

In today's Experiment we will be making a mixture then separating it

Chemicals we used:
A chemical named Copper Sulfate Which is light blue, it a liquid and its transparent
We also used a Chemical called sodium carbonate which is Colourless its a liquid and its translucent

What we used:
Conical flask
Funnel
Beaker
Filter Paper
String rod

Hypothesis:
I think it might separate because they are both two different chemicals so they might have different things in it. I think we will have a mixture of colours when we combine them and when we separate them they will go a lighter shade of the colour it turns when we mix it

Method:

1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.

3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel

4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.

5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.  6. Observe what happened

Observation and discussion:

When we were mixing the chemicals they became a dark blue and we couldn't see through it and then when we were filtering it we went clear and see through. At the end the two chemicals swapped so the copper sulfate became copper carbonate which is what stayed at the top and didn't go through the filter and the sodium carbonate became sodium sulfate.

Here are photos of them
