Schooner boats

Hey everyone welcome back today In hurumanu 1 we are doing another do now about the Schooner boats. We had to write a descriptive piece of writing that describes what it looks like and then what we would see if we were on one. I hope you enjoy have a wonderful day thank you for reading my blog, Enjoy the rest of your day,  Good-bye

The boat looks like it is a big pirate ship because it has big sales on the top of the boat it has a long deck so it can fit many people on it, it has places under the boat so you can sleep, it is in like a crescent shape so that there is a high up piece at the front and a lower piece at the back. If you were to be sailing on the boat you would see many other boats you would also see the sails flapping around so that it still has the wind pushing it. you would see the water floating past you as you move across the waters, you would see all the people around. you would see the clouds and the sky no matter what the weather, you would see birds many different types of birds.

(Here is a photo of the boat)

The U-Boat German submarine

Hey everyone welcome back today we had a week one to do for our Hurumanu 1 we had to research some facts about the U-Boat German Submarine. Our main things we had to do was Find out three facts about the submarine and then we had to find a video and say why it is a good video. I hope you enjoy good bye.

Three Facts about the U-Boat
1. In world war 1 over 5,000 of them sunk
2. It was 214 feet long
3. It could only travel under water for two hours.

This video is a good source because it tells you what it was like when it was used the most and what it was like and how it worked. This video can tell you what you would mainly need to know about the boat

Wananga

hey everyone welcome back today in Wananga we are learning about friends while we were learning we had to read a short story then we have to answer our questions. Here are the questions, Thank you for viewing my blog, Have a wonderful day, Good Bye

What is Taha Whānau? Taha Whanau is your social well being but it can also mean you friends and family

Why are 'good friend' relationships so important? A good friend is important because with out them you wouldn't know what a good friend is or how to be one or even how to know if you have one.

Why is Respect so important for all (not just friends) of our relationships? Respect is important for all our relationships because if you didn't have it your relationship would be really toxic

Hurumanu 1 Week 2 Do now

Hey everyone welcome back today as our do now we are writing about a statement about school uniforms and if they are mandatory heres what I have to say.

Topic- School uniforms should not be mandatory

I do and don't agree with this statement because some schools don’t have to wear uniforms and they don't have to make sure their uniform is clean and tidy. But I also don’t agree with this statement because then we don’t all match and then the school isn’t representing what school we come from.

The evidence for this statement is that all schools should have their own way of showing their school weather it be in uniform or not but i think we should have at least some more mufti in the schools.

I think that uniforms should stil be around but also that mufti should be aloud as well.

Summer Learning Journey Week 2 Day 5

Ki Ora Everyone for the next few weeks I will be posting blog posts continuously for something that is called the Summer Learning Journey. Today I am doing Week 2 Day 5. I will always put the links under this blurb so that you can go to the sites I had.
Activity 1. Everyday Heroes

Every day, the men and women in the Emergency Services provide help and support people in New Zealand and around the world. At times, they have to risk their lives in order to save others. Common Emergency Services include the Fire Service, the Police Force, and the Ambulance Service. Other related services include the Air Ambulance, Search and Rescue, Coast Guard, Surf Lifesaving, and the Civil Defence (amongst others). In Australia, Fire Services are currently fighting more than 150 wildfires burning in New South Wales, a province on the east coast of the country. The wildfires started in November 2019 and are not expected to stop for many weeks. It is a very challenging time for the men and women serving in the Emergency Services in Australia.

Activity 2.Leading by Example
Mother Teresa and Princess Diana were both people who wanted to do things to help others. They were very different people, however, they both had a significant impact on the world. Mother Teresa was born in Eastern Europe but decided at a young age that she wanted to be a missionary (a person who gets sent somewhere to share their religious faith and do charity work). She moved to India where she worked hard and cared for those who needed her the most. Her work was recognised by the Catholic Church, which gave her the title of ‘Saint’ Teresa. Diana, while not officially a saint, was a real-life princess. In her role as a princess, she travelled the world raising awareness about a number of important issues. Through her work, Princess Diana helped the world to see that all people, including those affected by illness and disease, needed love and respect. Princess Diana and Mother Teresa both led by example with acts of kindness towards others.

I made an act of kindness by helping my mum with cleaning the house, she was really happy it made me feel great.

Bouns Activity. Choose your own
You have now made it to the end of Week 2 and have earned the chance to choose your very own politician or activist who you think has changed the world. There are no right or wrong choices for this activity, so find someone who interests you and tell us about them on your blog. It could be someone from your family, church, community and/or someone famous who you admire.
Here are some starting points in case you get stuck:
Bill English
Xi Jinping
Pania Newton
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
Willie Apiata
Jane Fonda
Name: Bill English
Description: He was the Prime minister before Jacinda. He did a great job at it.
What he does: Now he is a director of west farms

Summer Learning Journey Week 2 Day 4

Ki Ora Everyone for the next few weeks I will be posting blog posts continuously for something that is called the Summer Learning Journey. Today I am doing Week 2 Day 4. I will always put the links under this blurb so that you can go to the sites I had.

Activity 1. Guiding PrinciplesHōne Heke was a rangatira (chief) of Ngapuhi iwi in Northland. He was a strong and fearless warrior, and also an intelligent leader who fought for Māori rights during the British colonization of Aotearoa, New Zealand. He was baptized as a Christian in 1835 and had much respect for the missionaries that came to New Zealand. Hōne Heke supported Te Tiriti o Waitangi - the Treaty of Waitangi - and was the first rangatira to sign it in 1840. However, he soon realized that under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori rangatira was losing their authority (power). In protest, he cut down the flagpole that flew the British flag at Kororareka (Russell) four times. He must have been very frustrated and angry. Sometimes when we feel strongly (frustrated, angry, happy, excited, in awe…) we find it hard to put our feelings into words. Many cultures have sayings, proverbs or metaphors that can help people to explain their feelings or describe specific things. In Te Reo Māori, some people may use a whakataukī.

Activity 2.Celebrating Diversity
There are between 370 and 500 million Indigenous Peoples currently living in 90 countries around the world. Together, they represent over 5000 different cultures and speak 4000 different languages. That is pretty amazing ‘eh?! I wish that I could speak 4000 languages! Indigenous People is the term used to describe the people who were the first inhabitants of a land. In Aotearoa, Māori is Indigenous. Indigenous people have rich and vibrant cultures that make the world such a fascinating, varied and enriching place to live.

I chose Australian aboriginal people & Maya People
Facts about Australian aboriginal people
1. Aboriginal Australians are related to groups indigenous to Australia
2.here are 250 distinct language groups spread throughout Australia.
Facts about Maya People
1, more than 600 of their people now live in America.
2. they speak more than 30 Mayan languages.

Bouns Activity.Wise Words
Sir Āpirana Ngata and Dame Whina Cooper were both influential leaders who fought for Māori rights. Āpirana Ngata was a lawyer and politician. He worked hard to give rights to Māori landowners, and he also spent a lot of his career encouraging Māori to preserve the culture - haka, poi, whakairo (carving), waiata (song), sport and the construction of more marae around Aotearoa, New Zealand. Whina Cooper was the first president of the Māori Women’s Welfare League, which worked on improving health, education, housing, and welfare for Māori women in New Zealand in the 1950s. She led the Māori land hikoi (march) from Northland to Wellington to protest against the loss of Māori land. She was nearly 80 years old at the time. Both of these individuals are examples of wise, inspiring leaders and role models.
My role model is my mum.
Because she is always doing her best to make us kids have the best we can.
One day she told me if you keep acting like your acting you won't make it through life and that's when I learned that I need to change the way i'm acting so thats what I did

Summer Learning Journey Week 2 Day 3

Activity 1.The Right to Vote
Kate Sheppard was a very famous and important New Zealander. In the late 1800s, she fought for women to have the right to vote in elections. She did this by creating petitions (lists with the names of people who supported her), running public meetings, writing letters to the newspaper, and talking to politicians. As a result of her hard work, women in New Zealand (NZ) were first granted the right to vote in 1893. This made NZ the first country in the world to give women the right to vote. We call this right ‘women’s suffrage’.In honor of Kate Sheppard’s work, the NZ government has put her image on the current $10 note.

I think if they were to change the person on the $10 note I think they should change it to Valerie Adams Because she gave all new Zealand girls hope because she got in the Olympics and she has won many competitions throughout the Olympics.

Image result for Valerie Adams

Activity 2. The Right to an Education
Malala Yousafzai is a woman who was born and raised in Pakistan. In 2012, she was shot and wounded when traveling home on the bus from school. At the time, girls (and women) living in Pakistan were not encouraged or even allowed, to go to school. It is widely believed that Malala was attacked because she (and her father) did not agree with this idea and they felt that women had the right to an education. Once Malala recovered from her injuries she continued to advocate (fight) for the rights of all women to receive an education. For this work, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 - the youngest person to ever receive this prestigious prize. You can read more of her story hereAs well as giving speeches in front of many very important and influential people, Malala has written books about her own life. She has also written a book for children called Malala’s Magic Pencil.
Starting Year 8
1.For the year coming I will be starting year eight.
2. It will be kind of scary for me because I will have a lot of pressure on me because I will need to get my math knowledge up.
3. I am also excited to start year eight because it is a new journey for me.
4. Many reasons I am excited for next year is I can make new friends, I can also learn new things as well.
5. I think it will be a big step for me because of what happened this year.
6. I've been thinking through the holidays on what I can do better for next year.
7. I've thought of choosing friends that won't get me in trouble and picking better places to sit and get my work done.
8. I can also take every opportunity that gets offered to me, to make sure I do the best that I can.
9. I also can do everything that I can do to get the st John hours up so I can get my 200-hour badge.
10. I can also put my st john learning into my school learning by if we get health questions I can try my best to answer them.
Bouns Activity.Belle of the Ball
Emma Watson is a movie star who started acting in films when she was just nine years old. You might recognize her as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter films or ‘Belle’ from the Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. When Emma is not acting, she spends a lot of time giving speeches and advocating for the rights of women and girls. In 2014 she launched the HeForShe campaign which encourages men and boys to actively support women and girls by speaking out about gender equality - the idea that males (men) and females (women) have the same rights. Emma is also an avid reader who started her own worldwide book club! Let’s imagine that Emma has just emailed you and asked for your help. She needs a recommendation for a great book for her book club. She also needs you to prepare a short review of the book to share with her readers.
I chose the book, Matilda, by Roald Dahl
I Chose this book because it is a really good book and it was really funny. The book is about a little girl named Matilda who's Mum and Dad don't really care about her. When she was six she first started school and when she was outside of the school it's self her principal came out and grabbed a girl's pigtails and threw her over the fence. I liked this book because it shows you how much you are really lucky that your mum and dad really do care for you.
