Activity 1.National Treasure
Sophie Pascoe is a New Zealand para-swimmer. This means she is a competitive swimmer with a physical disability. Very sadly, Sophie was run over by a lawnmower when she was only 2 years old. She had to have the bottom of her left leg amputated. However, despite this terrible accident, she was determined to become a competitive swimmer.
Sophie has won numerous New Zealand and world para-swimming titles, including nine Olympic gold medals. She has also won the Halberg Award for Disabled Sportsperson of the Year three times. Sophie is a great example of a New Zealander who did not let her disability stop her from achieving her dreams. She is truly a ‘National Treasure’. A national treasure is someone or something that is very important to a country.
1. My Giraffe scarf
Why. Because My Nana that passed away when I was three bought it for me and whenever it is really cold I were it.
2. My dog
Why. Because he knows how to make a person happy and he never stops giving you cuddles if you are sad. (this is what he looks like↓)

Activity 2.Swimming to Safety
Yusra Mardini is a teenage girl who was born in Syria, a war-torn country in the Middle East. She left Syria in 2015 to get away from the constant fighting and became a refugee. During her journey to reach safety in a new country, the engine on the boat she was traveling in broke down and Yusra, her sister, and two others jumped out of the boat and swam to get help. Her heroic actions saved twenty people’s lives.
Yusra now lives in Germany. In 2016 she was named as part of the Refugee Olympic Team and she swam for this team in the last summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is now training for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Yusra and her older sister flew the Syrian was and they set off on a long journey to find a safe place in Europe. In the summer of 2015,  the traveled all through Lebanon to Turkey before Starting a new Journey in Greece in an overcrowded dinghy.

When they were fifteen minutes into crossing the sea, the boat's engine stopped. As a professional swimmer, Yusra was determined not to let any of the people she was with drown. So Yusra and her sister and two others jumped into the waves and swam for three and a half hours, right into open water to stop their dinghy capsizing, Saving the lives of 20 other people.

  2. Hi Nici!

Wow! Great work on completing all three activities for this day! I see that you have been doing this for every day and want to say how awesome it is to see!

I really like how you have included so much detail for your first two activities! Sophie Pascoe sounds like such an amazing role model, it must have been so much work for her to win all those swimming events!

One way that you can make your writing easier to read for us is to make sure that all the text on your page is the same formatting (That means the same font and size) This makes the text easy to read and looks great too! :)

    Keep up the great work,

    Gabe
