Science Recycling

Aim: To learn practical ways of recycling so that we can make our world a better place.

How can we prevent climate change though recycling these products?

Plastics: Prevents us from burning it and it doesn't release carbon dioxide
Cycling or walking: You save the planet because using you car uses gas and It gets in the air
Paper: When you make paper you cut done trees and oxygen
Steel: We can stop using coal to burn down steel and reusing it makes it not release carbon dioxide

Video questions:

What is Zero Waste?
It is one of the quickest and cheapest ways a community can immediately reduce climate impact.
What can we do on the planet?

  1.   Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair
  2.   Stop feeding land fills
  3.  Start feeding the soils
  4.  If we use zero waste each time we shut down a carbon dioxide factory
What do we need to recycle?
Plastic, Steel and  Paper
What does recycling do?
Saves the planet because we don't release carbon dioxide so the planet doesn't heat up as fast
How much of our rubbish is food scraps?
90,000
What does soil do to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?
When plants die the soil brakes down and takes the carbon dioxide and keeps it in the soil
What do we need to do?
  1. Make P_____product____s.
  2. Have Zero ___Waste________

What is a carbon footprint?

Something that we use to with carbon dioxide

How can you make your Carbon Footprint smaller?

by not throwing out as much rubbish and going in a car as much

1.Turn the light of in a room when i leave it
2. Not use as much electricity
3. Walk to places

AT WHAT RATES DO DIFFERENT ITEMS DECOMPOSE?

MY INVESTIGATION.

Image result for rates of decomposition

Choose 5 items from the list and investigate them.

You need to answer three questions.

Name: Coke Can

  1. How long do they take to decompose? It Takes it around 50 years
  2. What resource / fossil fuel are they made from? Metal
  3. How is this resource recycled? It goes through a re-melt process
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change? It May Get thrown on the ground and and no one pick it and so it goes to sea and seals or penguins get a part of their body stuck in the can

Name: Leafs

  1. How long do they take to decompose? 6 to 12 months
  2. What resource / fossil fuel are they made from? Stems and Roots
  3. How is this resource recycled? you just leave them alone and when you mow your lawns the decompose
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change? They Don't

Name: Plastic Bottle

  1. How long do they take to decompose? 450 years
  2. What resource / fossil fuel are they made from? polymers
  3. How is this resource recycled? They are sorted into what type of plastic it is and then they are cleaned the put through a Shredder and they come out in a tiny little ball
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change? Animals that live in the sea could eat them and then the animals could die and the earth will also heat up faster

Name: Plastic Bag

  1. How long do they take to decompose?1000 years
  2. What resource / fossil fuel are they made from? ubiquitous polymer substance known as polyethylene
  3. How is this resource recycled? They Can Be Melted Down and made into a new batch of plastic bags
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change? It Heats the earth faster

Name: Orange Peel

  1. How long do they take to decompose? six months
  2. What resource / fossil fuel are they made from? Corn starch
  3. How is this resource recycled? It's enough to add them to some alcohol and leave them in a jar for 3-4 days Then boil a water and join some sugar
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change? They Don't
