Today Is Day 5 Of Week Four This Is The Last Day of The Summer Learning Journey I Hope You Have Liked All My Activity's. Links: World Environment Day,Environment Day video,World Wildlife Fund, adopt a species, symbolic,WWF site,

Activity 1:Environment Day - Beat Plastic Pollution
Every year we celebrate World Environment Day in June. On World Environment Day we do what we can to protect our planet. This year the focus is on reducing the use of plastic bags and water bottles. Watch this Environment Day video to learn more about it!
What could you and your family do to protect the planet?
On your blog tell us three things that you could do to help save the planet.
1. Get Rid Of All The Plastic
2. Don't Litter
3. If You See Rubbish On The Ground Pick It Up Even If It Isn't Yours

Activity 2:Adoption Day
Not only can you help the planet by reducing, reusing and recycling, you can also help to save animals and plants by ‘adopting’ them. To ‘adopt’ an animal through the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), you need to visit their adopt a species page, read through the list of animals and choose one.
With the WWF, you don’t actually adopt the animal and bring it home! It’s a symbolic adoption. In this case you pay a fee ($55.00) and the money is used to provide food and care for your chosen animal. Visit the WWF site and take a look at the animals who are available for adoption. Choose your ‘top three’ animals from the website.
On your blog, list the three animals that you have chosen and then compare and contrast them. How are they similar? How are they different? At the bottom of you post, tell us which of the three animals you would most like to adopt..
1.Giant Panda
2. Adelie Penguin
3.Kiwi

How Are They Similar
1. Kiwi And Adelie Penguin: Flightless Birds
2. Giant Panda And Kiwi: Lay Big Eggs

Bonus Activity:Concluding the Journey

Sadly, the Summer Learning Journey has now come to an end. It is time to reflect on everything that you have learned about the environment and, particularly, about how you can protect and preserve it.

On your blog please tell us:
  1. What is one thing that you learned from participating in the Summer Learning Journey programme this year? That The World Around Us Is Very Different
  2. What is one thing that surprised you?How Many Animals Are Becoming Extincted
  3. What is one thing that concerned or upset you? Finding Out How Many Animals Are Dying
  4. What is one thing that you (or your family) can do, moving forward, to help protect our natural environment? Picking Up All Of The Rubbish We Find And Not To Take Plastic Bags From Shops

  1. Hi Nici,

Congratulations on completing the programme! :) You've managed to get through all of the activities in such a short period of time - I'm impressed! :)

Those are three great ideas Nici. It's very concerning how much rubbish is not being disposed of properly, isn't it? Picking it up and placing it in the proper bins is such an easy way for us to contribute to protecting our planet. I use reusable bags, a bamboo toothbrush, a reusable drink bottle and coffee cup, and shampoo and conditioner bars to further reduced my plastic usage. Do you do any of these things? Or maybe something else?

What a wonderful concept! I wasn't aware that you could 'adopt' these kinds of animals. An elephant would be first on my list - they're my favourite. :) You've got some great similarities there. Can you think of any differences between the animals you've chosen?

It's so great to see that you've taken so much away from the Summer Learning Journey programme. :) It has bought to light some sad realities though, hasn't it? But it's good to be aware of these kinds of things so that we can do something about them.

Congratulations again, Nici. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and I hope to see you blogging with us next summer. :)

    All the best,

    Mikey :)

  2. Hello Nici,
Congrats on finally finishing the Summer Learning Journey. It was an amazing journey, wasn't it? Your work is very descriptive and I really admire that. I also said I would pick up rubbish, and you also said to pick it up when it wasn't yours, and that is 100% right. Next time you could Put more of your work rather than pasting it from the site. Other than that your work is phenomenal.

    Happy blogging

  3. Hello Nici,
Congrats on completing the Summer Learning Journey. Did you have an amazing time while it lasted? Your blog post reminded me to not use plastic bags. Maybe next time you could add more information about your questions.

  4. Kia ora Nici,

Well done on completing the Summer Learning Journey! You have done a wonderful job and have worked so hard to complete the programme so you should be very proud of yourself.

It's amazing how different other parts of the world can be compared us here in little old New Zealand. I think we are super lucky to be in a country that is quite clean and green and is constantly working towards preserving our land and environment for the future.

It is really quite sad the reality of how many animals are endangered of being extinct however however if everyone took some small steps, it could make a huge difference for the future such as 'Adopting' one of the endangered animals you have suggested.

Once again, well done on all of your hard work Nici. Don't forget that thoughtful and positive comments on your peers Summer Learning Journey posts score you extra points. :)

Until next time, happy blogging. :)

  6. Kia Ora Nici,

My name is Rachel and I am working with Mikey and Emma on the Summer Learning Journey programme this year. It is wonderful to see that you have participated in the SLJ again this year and that you have made it all the way to the end. Wow! Congratulations! This is a huge accomplishment.

It's wonderful to read that you have learned a lot about the world around us and that you are open to doing what you can to preserve and protect our special environment. I am a mom and I always think about what the world is going to be like for my son (Aronui) in 50 years' time. I really hope that we can work together to protect our endangered animals and plants.

I also hope that we can work together to continue to support students who are still finishing up the SLJ. If you have time, please consider posting comments on the blogs of other participants. You can earn 2 points for every quality comment that you post. A high quality comment is, at least, three sentences long and includes information about you liked or found interesting in the post.

Hope to see you online over the next few weeks, if you have time to post some supportive comments!

    Bye for now,
    Rachel :)

  7. Kia ora Nici,

Congratulations on completing all of the activities in the Summer Learning Journey programme. That must have taken a lot of time and effort - ka pai!

I really liked your suggestion about helping the environment by picking up litter at the beach, even if it doesn't belong to you. If everyone did that, there would be no rubbish at all!

I hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer holidays, and remember, you can earn extra SLJ points by posting quality comments of the blogs of other students.

    Congratulations again Nici!

    Hazel :)
